British Citizenship (Naturalisation)
British citizenship or naturalisation gives you the full rights of a UK citizen. There are several ways to become a British citizen depending on your visa route and your circumstances. To apply for British citizenship, you need to meet the following key requirements:

- You must hold settlement (‘indefinite leave to remain’) in the UK for the last 12 months if you are a non-EEA national or permanent residence status for the last 12 months if you are an EEA national, unless an exemption applies.
- You must be of a good character, not in breach of the immigration rules or have committed any criminal offences during your lawful stay.
- You must demonstrate knowledge of English language and life in the UK by passing the Life in the UK test or having a speaking and listening qualification in English at level B1 or higher.
